Mommy Mentor Cafe du Mom
From the time I was very young, I loved kids and babies. I had tons of cousins, did a bunch of babysitting, and later worked as a volunteer teaching inner-city kids. I was incredibly prepared for parenting….or maybe not. In fact, despite my affection for children and the years of experience I had with them, becoming a mom for the first time was like being hit by a big Mac truck. I had no idea what I was getting into.
Three kids and seven years of mommy experience later, I still often feel like I’m being hit by a truck, but now the trucks are smaller and I stand a lot taller against them. Although far from perfect and nowhere near the end of my maternal road, I have gained a certain confidence from the community of moms I have found and the knowledge that there are millions of us going through the same struggles at the same time. These friendships have been like flashlights for me through the darker and less certain times that parenting often presents.
It took a couple of kids and a lot of loneliness before I found these friends, so I remember how rough starting out as a mom (and continuing as one) can be. I hope this site can help other moms (and myself too!) through some of those initial hurdles we’ve all faced.
